Description: This class is for individuals who want to explore the "why" of art as well as the "how" of visual techniques. The relationship between cultural literacy and art is a constant: this class, of idea driven two and three dimensional projects underscores the relationship between contemporary art and the broader cultural climate in which we live. The outcome of this workshop is to enrich a participant's understanding of the philosophy of art and the new studio technology supporting it. Students will draw, paint, construct and more, in this thought-provoking class for the mind and the hand. All skill levels welcome.

The Figure in Color

Teacher: Larry Forgard

Dates & Hours: Tuesdays, November 13-December 18, 2012, 9:30am-12:30pm

Description: This 6 week drawing course focuses on using dry material color to complete and enhance the beauty of the nude figure form. Exploration of the general proportion, form, value and gesture will be studied to help in the final studies. Limited color and full color will be introduced using a variety of materials. Dry materials such as pastel, charcoal and conte' will be covered on a variety of papers. This course uses live models situated in simple background environments to help students in the understanding of composition and to work on artwork that can later be framed. Short poses are introduced early in the class with longer poses added to complete colored pieces. Students with some basic figure drawing experience will benefit the most since this covers color material rather than the most basic figure drawing. Class requires a 10 person minimum to cover the cost of a live model each week.

Painting In Full Color

Teacher: Julie Hanson

Dates & Hours: Wed, November 14-December 19, 2012, 9:00am-12:30pm (there are 4 sessions available see the flyer below for future dates!)

Description: Why limit your painting to value and color only? Learn how to paint the "temperature" of color. This approach is used in "Plein Air" painting. It's what enables the artist to capture so much of the feeling of the moment. It's also what makes the difference between a good and a GREAT painting. This class is for those wanting to use color in a powerful and expressive way. Mediums in order of preference are oil, water-soluble oil, pastel and acrylic. Although watercolor is not the best medium for learning this approach, you can very easily apply this new knowledge to your watercolor painting. We will work from a variety of subject matter that includes photographs in studio and occasionally on location. You will never see color the same way again!
