Colors That Last 100+ Years
Faber-Castell is a German-rooted company that dates all the way back to 1761. Faber is well known for its superb drawing instruments--including a wide assortment of pencils (watercolor, pastel, colored, graphite...) and pens.

Faber-Castell indicates light-fastness ratings on each pen and pencil. Light-fastness is an indication of how items will resist fading.
*** Maximum light-fastness (maximum fade resistance--100+yrs)
** Very good light-fastness (very good fade resistance--25+ yrs)
* Good light-fastness (good fade resistance--5+ yrs)

-100 of the 120 Polychromos Colored Pencils will last more than 100 years
-64 of 120 Albrecht Durer Watercolor Pencils will last more than 100 years
-22 of 27 PITT Artist's Pens will last more than 100 years

Other facts:
-Polychromos Colored Pencils are oil based, preventing "wax bloom" (the whitish haze that is sometimes created over the surface when using wax-based color pencils)
- The lead is firmly bonded along its entire length to its wooden casing ("SV" Secural Process)---this prevents the lead from slipping out of the wood & enhances the breaking resistance of the lead, e.g. when dropping or sharpening the pencil
-For graphite pencils, a consistently uniform graphite/clay mixing ratio guarantees the same degree of hardness for subsequent purchases; the availability of a pencil in a variety of degrees of hardness ensures consistent quality for varying types of applications; the ingredients of the lead are crushed, finely ground and blended for a long period of time, resulting in an even lead stroke without scratching.

A note from Robert Gamblin (Gamblin Artist Colors)
"...through the tough times painters still paint, they may paint less, or they may paint smaller, but they still make paintings...this is what we do, we will keep on doing it.

So, I wanted to suggest a few ideas to help you.

Gamsol
Admittedly what concerns me the most is that artists will be tempted to economize by buying cheap solvents. Gamsol seems expensive compared to hardware store mineral spirits. Your health and the environment have always been key concerns of ours; this is why we have worked so hard to get strong solvents out of artists' studios.

So I wanted to bring back an idea on how to get the most out of your Gamsol...

Gamsol can be re-used until the solvent will no longer clear. Set up a simple system. After a painting session, pour dirty solvent into the first can. Let the solvent settle then pour off the clear solvent into the second clean can. Repeat the process and add another settling can if needed. Keep all settling cans completely closed.

Once Gamsol will no longer settle, dispose with motor oil at your local recycling center. Sludge from cans of Gamsol and Gamblin colors can be disposed of as normal household waste."

Paint on the palette

By covering your paint on the palette with plastic wrap at the end of the day you can prevent the color from drying for an additional few days, so less paint is discarded.

I hope some of these ideas are helpful to you. We know you want to continue painting, and we appreciate that you choose our materials. Thank you for your support of Gamblin Artists Colors.

Sincerely,

Robert Gamblin
