So, I wanted to suggest a few ideas to help you.
Gamsol
Admittedly what concerns me the most is that artists will be tempted to economize by buying cheap solvents. Gamsol seems expensive compared to hardware store mineral spirits. Your health and the environment have always been key concerns of ours; this is why we have worked so hard to get strong solvents out of artists' studios.
So I wanted to bring back an idea on how to get the most out of your Gamsol...
Gamsol can be re-used until the solvent will no longer clear. Set up a simple system. After a painting session, pour dirty solvent into the first can. Let the solvent settle then pour off the clear solvent into the second clean can. Repeat the process and add another settling can if needed. Keep all settling cans completely closed.
Once Gamsol will no longer settle, dispose with motor oil at your local recycling center. Sludge from cans of Gamsol and Gamblin colors can be disposed of as normal household waste."

Paint on the palette
By covering your paint on the palette with plastic wrap at the end of the day you can prevent the color from drying for an additional few days, so less paint is discarded.

I hope some of these ideas are helpful to you. We know you want to continue painting, and we appreciate that you choose our materials. Thank you for your support of Gamblin Artists Colors.
Sincerely,
Robert Gamblin

( 2.9 / 207 )Acidity:
-pH refers to balance of acid and alkaline (0=absolute acidity, 14=absolute alkalinity, 7=neutral)
-acidity of paper may be internal and caused by components in the pulp, lignin being most legendary
-lignin may be removed, which is classified as lignin-free
-additives like bleach, sizing or colorants may make paper acidic
-pulp may be treated with de-acidifier such as calcium carbonate to bring pH level to 7 or slightly higher--it then becomes neutral pH
-exposure to light, heat, humidity, acidic atmosphere, inherent acidity of pulp, paper may become more acidic in time
-Acid Free may refer to being made with alpha cellulose wood fiber, cotton linter, or vegetable fibers that don't contain lignin and are naturally close to neutral pH
-describes papers made from pulp after lignin is extracted and no other acidic agents are added
-manufactured in alkaline environment to prevent internal chemical deterioration of paper over time
-some just add buffering agent to increase pH to 7 or higher, but external acidic contact (air of other acidic materials, like light, will slowly lower pH)
Rice Paper (Decorative Paper):
-There are many natural fibers used to make paper: Kozo (from Mulberry plant), Gampi, Abaca, Banana Bark, Hemp, to name a few.
-rice starch was traditionally used to size papers made of Kozo, and many were important from the Orient; either could have coined the term "rice paper"
-today, names reflect what they're made from, the process by which they're made, or historical provenance: ex. Mulberry, Lotka, Unryu, Toinoko, Chiri
-may be made from pure pulp or a blend
-may or may not be pH neutral (acid free)
-the term "decorative paper" often replaces "rice paper"
